The world's first drive to offer an 81.7GB per square inch areal density, Toshiba's MK1031GAS provides 100GB of storage in a 9.5mm form factor. Toshiba's new drive is ideal for both notebooks and digital gadgets that need to store gigabytes of information in a tiny package. Toshiba was able to achieve a new breakthrough in hard drive areal density by replacing the Pico Sliders attached to the drive's heads with Femto Sliders that are lighter and 35 percent smaller. The Femto Sliders, in addition to a lighter suspension, also increase shock resistance to 325G (2msec). Weighing in at 98 grams, Toshiba's MK1031GAS 100GB HDD breaks current capacity barriers, providing a compact, rugged solution for digital applications with insatiable appetites.
