Maxtor's 10.2 GB drive is a high-capacity storage solution well-suited for top-of-the-line servers and desktop systems. It supports an onboard ATA-4/Ultra DMA 66 controller, which allows you to transfer data at up to 66.7 MB per second with improved overall AT interface performance. And, with a rotation speed of 5400 RPM and seek time of 9 ms, you can quickly and easily run digital audio/video, graphics, or other data-intensive applications. This drive features Maxtor's DualWave technology. DualWave supports ATA-4/UltraDMA 66, yet incorporates a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) to control disk functions and a separate 50 MIPs RISC processor to fulfill host commands. The large 2 MB 100 MHz SDRAM buffer works with the dual processors to move data at full speed while the DSP and RISC processors perform all other drive functions. It also features ShockBlock, which is an enhanced shock-resistance design that prevents handling-generated shock levels of up to 1,000G without drive failure. It reduces the tendency for the head to lift from the disk during a shock load and eliminates improper alignment during re-contact if the head does lift. And, this drive has giant magnetoresistive (GMR) heads, which allow the drive to reach a higher areal density of 6.8 GB per platter.
